Appalachia Service Project

The Appalachia Service Project is an organization that works to repair and replace homes for low-income families in rural Central Appalachia. They provide critical repairs to raise homes out of substandard conditions, thus helping residents avert housing insecurity and potential homelessness.

I traveled with a group of volunteers to Virginia, near the Tennessee border, where we spent one week building a new roof for a house damaged in a storm. This was a rewarding experience, as it allowed me to connect not only with the homeowner but also with my fellow volunteers. I felt a deep sense of appreciation from the homeowner for our work.
